Noted Communist leader and former Rajasthan MLA Hetram Beniwal passed away at a hospital in Sriganganagar late on Monday night.

The nonagenarian (94) leader, who was rushed to the hospital three days ago with symptoms of anaemia, breathed his last around 11 pm on Monday.

The body was later taken to his native village, “8-LNP”, for the last rites. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.

Born in October 1932, Beniwal, a grassroots-level Communist and trade unionist, played a proactive role in several agitations for six decades.

Beniwal contested at least three assembly elections in Sangaria and Sardulshahr constituencies between 1967 and 2004. He was once elected from Sangaria in 1990.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and several dignitaries condoled Beniwal’s death.
